Iain Beag Macandra | Dalnahaitnach
Iain Beag Macandra.
Fragments of October 1645.
The winter approaches and the country is at war with itself. In the Highlands, a group of caterans go raiding, little do they realise that the hounds are already on their trail.
Iain Beag Macandra is a semi-fictional narrative which draws upon archival sources (the Seafield Muniments held by the National Records of Scotland) and folk-memory. It reflects the fragmentary nature of much of received history and also the processes required to reconstruct past events. The artist's book acts as an accompaniment to a four part site-specific audio walk. It is designed to be read and listened to on location in Strath Dulnain in the Scottish Highlands. Iain Beag Macandra was commissioned as part of Spirit:360. Spirit:360 is a commissioning programme for emerging and established creative professionals – writers, musicians, filmmakers, visual artists, and others – to create new work inspired by local stories that reflect the theme ‘Spirit of the Highlands’
Spirit:360 is supported by Highland Place Partnership, by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland’s Place Partnership Programme, and is administered by High Life Highland, as part of the Spirit of the Highlands project.
